San Francisco has some pretty iconic attractions for the family, and Pier 39 is one of them - so it's worth a visit to really experience what people LOVE about this great city on the bay!

Pier 39 is FILLED with fun things for the family - no matter what the age! As you walk along this historic pier, you will walk past musicians, and sail boats, and even some sea lions who call it home!

There are attractions on the water to enjoy, including whale tours and rocket boat adventures, and parents - you might even like the wine tasting on the bay!

For those active kids, why not bounce in the very cool bungee, or explore the magical mirror maze that just keeps going on....and on....and on!

There are bikes for rent to explore the area, or you can simply spend a few hours in the fascinating Aquarium on the Bay!

Pier 39 is really a great place to just explore!

Those rumbling tummies will love the incredible range of restaurants and cafes, and even kids will get excited at the sites of the fun food carts and all those dessert treats - and yes, there is ice cream!

Then of course there is the shopping! From clothes, to fun gifts, and everything in between, it's just a place you will always find something new, and surprising, and something different every time you go back!

Take Highway 101 North to Highway 80 East
Exit at 4th Street
Stay left onto Bryant Street (get in right lane)
Stay on Bryant Street to The Embarcadero
Turn left onto The Embarcadero (get into right lane)
Straight to PIER 39 (2 1/2 miles)

From the North Bay
Take Highway 101 South across the Golden Gate Bridge
Pass through the Toll Plaza and stay to your left
Take Lombard Street Exit (on right side)
Follow Lombard Street to Van Ness Avenue
Take a left onto Van Ness Avenue (stay right)
Follow Van Ness Avenue to Bay Street (about three blocks)
Stay on Bay Street until it runs into The Embarcadero
Turn left onto The Embarcadero
You will see PIER 39 on right side of the street

From the East Bay
Take Interstate 80 West across the Bay Bridge
Take Fremont Exit (on right side)
Stay in far right lane
Turn left on Folsom St.
Follow Folsom to The Embarcadero
Turn left onto The Embarcadero
Straight to PIER 39 (aprox. 2 miles)

Pier 39 FAQ’s

We rarely say this, but there is almost TOO much to eat at Pier 39! From carts with hot dogs, to seafood restaurants, Bubba Gump, ice cream, pizzerias, cafes, bakeries....you won't be going hungry!

Dress in layers as the weather can change quickly!

From apparel, to gifts, jewelry, to books and toys -there is plenty to spend that pocket money on. There is even a magic shop!

There are plenty of healthy options in the MANY restaurants at the pier!

Pier 39 is accessible! There are ramps and elevators, and there are wheelchairs to be rented from the Welcome Center on level 2

Make sure you take sun protection if you're there in summer!
