The Civil War one of the most poignant events that ever happened in the USA, and Pea Ridge is one of the most important battles that occurred. It also happens to be the most intact Civil War battlefields in the entire country. Which makes a fascinating, historic and educational experience for everyone who visits - especially the kids!
There are 4,300 acres of battlefield which honor those who fought for what they believe in, and two days in March in 1862 decided the entire fate of Missouri and the West! 26,000 soldiers fought in the battle, and now their stories can be heard once more.
The best place to start your visit is at the Visitor Center, where you you will find a bookstore, theater (with a 28 minute film), as well as a small museum. Outside the center you will come across a 7 mile tour road with 10 stops along it, as well as a 9 mile horse trail and a 7 mile hiking trail.
It's a great place for those families to enjoy nature, and of course that means there are plenty of opportunities to experience the wildlife and explore the amazing forest.
The hiking trail will take you through both historic areas and natural areas of the park, and if you don't particularly want to hike that far there are several shorter loops you can take on. You are more than welcome to ride your bikes on the tour road but you must ride with the traffic.
Throughout summer, caravan tours are regularly held, so just ask at the visitor center when you arrive.
An important experience for every family.
