Do you want to know what is really special about Parvin State Park? Can you guess? What if we told you that this beautiful New Jersey state park, hidden in the southwestern park of the state, actually has a history that is just as amazing as the wildlife? So not only can kids have an outdoor adventure, but a history lesson at the same time!
Parvin State Park is located on the edge of the Pine Barrens, and once served as a home for the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1933 to 1941. Pretty amazing isn't it? It was also the summer camp for the children of those displaced Japanese Americans back in 1943, as well as a POW camp for German prisoners in 1944. How amazing is that? There is so much history within the park, it's worth reading up on it before you visit!
But of course you are going to have fun, so why don't we explore what there is to do at Parvin State Park?
One of the most popular reasons families visit the state park is Parvin Lake, and the swimming beach at Parvin Grove. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer months, so parents don't need to worry about their kids swimming - they are well looked after!
There is a public boat launch ramp, and kayaks are available to rent seasonally too!
Picnicking is a popular activity too - and why wouldn't you when you see the nature that you get to enjoy lunch in!
Don't forget your walking shoes, because there are trails too that can take you through some amazing landscapes, from swamps, to lowlands and oak forests. Kids - make sure you try and spot the local wildlife!
An amazing family day out in New Jersey at Parvin State Park!
