Kids, are you excited to visit the largest Aviation Museum in New England? We are talking about the New England Air Museum, whose mission is to preserve and present historically significant aircraft and related artifacts!
Throughout your trip within the museum, you get to make your way through high-quality exhibits that help you understand aviation technology, history and the stories of the men and women who built, flew and made history with these famous machines.
You never know who just might inspire you!
The Museum consists of six buildings, with three of these being in huge hangars! Today, the Museum houses one of the world's most outstanding collections of historic aviation artifacts. In fact, they have more than 80 aircraft and an extensive collection of engines, instruments, aircraft parts, uniforms and personal memorabilia.
Within this collection are the last remaining four-engine American flying boat known as the Sikorsky VS-44A, donated by its previous owner, actress Maureen O'Hara and restored to original condition. Kids can also see an expertly restored B-29 Superfortress, and the Silas Brooks Balloon Basket (1870) believed to be the oldest surviving aircraft in the United States.
The history continues with the Bunce-Curtiss Pusher (1912) which is the oldest surviving Connecticut-built airplane and so much more!
The New England Air Museum also offers a number of fun family activities that the kids can enjoy, including daily scavenger hunts, dress up areas and a Paper Plane Activity Station. There is even more hands-on fun with the computerized flight simulators too.
History, aviation and a whole host of family fun is waiting for you at this popular family Air Museum, so fly into that next family day out in style!
