The Museum of International Folk Art opened to the public in 1953, and since then has become the LARGEST collection of international folk art in the entire WORLD - how amazing is that!?
Can you guess how many artifacts there are in the museum? No? How about over 135,000? That's a lot of culture and art to explore!
The collection is housed over four distinct wings within the museum. There is the Girard, the Bartlett, the Hispanic Heritage and the Neutrogena.
Each of the wings feature different collections, and each collection can introduce you to something amazing, and new. Some of the exhibits are unusual, such as the history of the circus and some cover the world, such as the history of Flamenco!
Kids can learn about dance, and art, and music, and all genres they might not have realized is "art". Toys, textiles, pop art....all these incredible artifacts from over 100 nations, so the art of the world really has come to you!
More suited for the older kids, the Museum of International Folk Art also has traveling exhibitions, so if you want to head on back, there will be something new for you to enjoy!
The museum also offer docent led tours which you don't have to reserve for, which is a great way to really understand the history and stories behind the collections, and the perfect start to your art education!
