We don't recommend any children see the very last section of the museum as it's VERY graphic! It was even too graphic for us in places. The Museum of Death NOLA is a fascinating yet very graphic museum in places. It was created to fill the void of death education in the USA, and you can visit via a self-guided tour that lasts around 45 to 60 minutes, but if you can stomach it, you can stay longer.
Family Days Out actually visited the Museum of Death in New Orleans, and our advice is take caution! Whilst it's an all-ages museum (because, as they say, death affects everyone), it's certainly not suitable for non-teens, and even then they will need a strong stomach for some of the exhibits!
The exhibits within the Museum of Death NOLA begin fairly easy viewing when it comes to it's content. There skeletons of small animals, and taxidermy pets, just as you would in a natural history museum, then it moves to to letters and artwork of serial killers (they have the world's largest collection of serial killer artwork!), and news clippings from notable moments in history like the assassination of JFK.
Exhibits also show Manson Family memorabilia, and even mortician and coroners instruments, among others. A lot of the exhibits we actually found really interesting, but there were some photos and videos that just showed too much!
The museum has the exhibits split into three sections, which get more graphic the content. Parents should check out the exhibits prior to kids looking at them, so you can make sure you are approving of what they see first.
So you've been warned, but every family has their own tastes and educational values, so take caution and if this is up your alley - good luck!
