I could spend hours at this museum… and I have. It’s fantastic. They have exhibitions that are wonderful, but what you’d expect, and they also have exhibitions that are amazing and are nothing you’ve ever experienced. They focus on artists that are modern (as you might have guessed), but they do a good job of having exhibitions that display artwork from artists that you’ve probably never heard of, including artists that are still living and creating artwork. The curators do an excellent job providing background information on the artists and the theme of the exhibits, and I always leaving having experienced something new – which is saying something because I go there several times a year. This place is definitely worth dedicating some time to.

Who said art can’t be fun? The answer to that will soon be nobody if you just make a trip to one of the First Friday events at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Each a month a different theme and a new reason to go get cultured with some of the best art in the city. I most recently attended this past April where the theme was Apocalypse. Live music, pop-up displays, and endless activities you simply can’t get anywhere else during a night out on the town. I highly recommend everyone check out the Museum of Contemporary Art and especially during First Fridays.

I’ve always loved the MCA. I like weird stuff. I like how artists can create something that seems so random, but when you read the placard describing the thought process, it makes complete sense. It’s pretty inspirational. Also, the MCA is a bit more affordable than some of the other museums and it’s in a great location. It’s walkable in an hour or so so it’s a must-see even if you’re in Chicago for a short period.

You have to visit the David Bowie is exhibit happening right now at the MCA! Give yourself about 2 hours to take a tour of all of David Bowie’s accomplishments. You won’t believe the costumes, the original lyric sheets and the history! Very awesome!
