This beautiful state park was once the site of one of the largest battles of the American Revolution. This battle actually took place within the fields and the forests that you will be standing on!
What's great about the Monmouth Battlefield State Park, is that they have preserved some fascinating and important features that tell those stories, including a Revolutionary War farmhouse.
The park also preserves an amazing rural 18th century landscape of hedgerows and hilly farmland, that now serves as a great day out for those active, and outdoor loving families.
When you first arrive, visit the Visitor Center, as here you can pick up information about the state park, as well as hiking guides for your day.
If you get those walking shoes on, you can explore that Battlefield landscape by hiking through it. It's a working landscape today, with the family farm being run on it.
From the end of May to October, you can get those hands dirty with the pick your own orchards, in an area that has been farmed by a local family since 1908. With apples, pumpkins, nectarines and more, it's a great activity for kids to see where their food comes from.
Craig House is a great stop on your day, as this farmhouse dates from 1746 onwards. Open Sundays, you can see what life would have been like for the Craig family during the battle itself.
An amazing day out for not only the kids, but for parents too. History comes to life at Monmouth Battlefield State Park.
