The Mobile Botanical Gardens is home to the largest collection of plants on the Gulf Coast, so if you love nature then this might just be the place for you on your next family day out!
Here, you can learn all about local wildlife and plant life, with over 100 acres of paved areas to stroll through and woodland gardens and trails to really allow you to immerse yourself in nature.
A stop in the WinterGarden (also named as a “Garden of Excellence by the International Camellia Society”) is well worth a visit as it's one of the most comprehensive collections of Azaleas along the Gulf Coast too - which is quite an impressive feat! It's also home to a Pollinator Gardens as well as the largest collection of Japanese Maple in the Southeast plus it's where you can enjoy a conservation Longleaf Pine forest.
In fact, the pine holds a very important role in the history of the area as it was prior to the European Settlemenet in the 1700s that the land on which Mobile Botanical Gardens stand today was actually part of an incredibly vast longleaf pine forest. Most of this land was logged in the early 1900s, but the 35 acre conservation area within Mobile Botanical Gardens is considered second generation growth.
With such a fascainating history visitors to Mobile Botanical Gardens have been able to really learn about the history since the early 1970s when Mobile Botanical Gardens was established and opened to visitors.
