Middleton Place is truly a special Charleston destination, as not only is it a National Historic Landmark but it is also home to the oldest landscaped gardens in America! Not only that, you'll find some fascinating historic buildings to explore too. Want to learn more? Great, just keep reading!
Middleton Place spans 110 amazing acres which include 65 acres of the USA's oldest landscaped gardens which is pretty impressive!
As you stroll around these iconic gardens you can enjoy floral allées, as well as marvel at the terraced lawns, and kids always love looking at a pair of ornamental lakes shaped like butterfly wings! Also at Middletone Place you'll find a House Museum which was built in 1755 as a gentleman's guest quarters and business office, and Eliza’s House which shares the real stories of those African and African Americans who worked on the plantation offering an eye opening look at their lives as enslaved people - from their daily tasks to also their lives once their work is done.
Also at Middleton Place you can explore working Stableyards with artisans and heritage breed animals (always a favorite with the little ones!) as well as an on-site restaurant, Inn, and Organic Farm!
General Admission currently includes access to their 65 acres of formal landscaped Gardens, an indepth look look at 18th and 19th century plantation life complete with exhibits and displays, plus exploration of those animals in the Stableyards.
A truly fascinating and historic Charleston experience not to be missed.
