Who is ready to have some fun whilst learning!? The Mayborn Museum, within the Baylor University complex, is where kids can explore, learn, enjoy, and get hands-on with some of the great exhibits that they have within their walls.
There are a number of permanent exhibits at the Mayborn Museum, and one of the most popular is the Waco at the Crossroads of Texas natural history exhibits.
Here, kids can see the transitions of evolution, with a 28 foot long model of a Pliosaur, once living in the Cretaceous Sea, to the Texas Lifeways, where you can get up close to a number of dwellings that were used throughout the years. You can explore a Waco Indian grass hut, a Comanche tipi, and even a Norwegian rock house. Don't miss the early log cabin either!
Another exhibit at the Mayborn Museum is the Strecker's Cabinets of Curiosities. This is the first exhibit in the natural history section, and many of the artifacts from the Strecker Museum's collections are on display. You can see a humpback whale skull, and even a tree cross section! (Try and guess how old it is!)
Make sure you look around the room too, because it's decorated after the style of an early natural history museum, which is very cool.
There is a historic village, as well as 17 themed Discovery Rooms where kids can enjoy hands-on, interactive activities that are great for learning too!
The museum also have a range of changing exhibitions, so there's something new whenever you go!
With birthday parties too, it's a great place for kids to really learn something unique and fascinating.
