Lumber River State Park is ALL about eastern North Carolina paddling, fishing, and stunning scenery. If you love the great outdoors, keep reading! If you head to the Princess Ann and Chalk Banks access areas, these anchor two ends of the riverine park. Here, you'll find tent-friendly campgrounds as well as group campgrounds, which means you can extend your family day out if you want to.
There are also short hiking trails, as well as plenty of picnic grounds where you can relax, and eat some delicious homemade lunch!
But if you want to kayak or canoe, the possibilities are endless. If you do want to enjoy the river, make sure you plan carefully due to fluctuating water levels.
There have been a whopping 24 possible floating trips that have been identified along this blackwater river. These can take you on adventures from one hour to about half a day. And you can just take it at your own pace!
Along the way, you can stop for a spot of fishing from the pier or riverbank, with largemouth bass, catfish and panfish filling the waters.
To add some learning into the kids experience, check out the park's interpretive programs which are held regularly, that include paddling and fishing excursions.
Are you ready for an adventure? Grab those hiking boots and canoes, and let's go!
