Lewis and Clark State Park is located in an amazing part of North Dakota, which will give the whole family a very fun and nature filled family day out!
Located on of the upper bays of the very stunning Lake Sakakawea, you can look at the rugged buttes of the North Dakota badlands towering over the horizon as you play in one of the best recreation areas in the state!
History surrounds you, as the park is named after those historic figures Lewis & Clark - those famous explorers. They actually camped nearby all the way back in 1805, and there is an interpretative trail marker placed in the park to commemorate that historic journey through the state.
So not a bad idea to get the kids to read a book or two on the expedition before or after your visit so they can get an idea of the kind of history that happened right on the ground that they are playing on!
Lewis & Clark State Park is on the lake, so of course you should get ready for those water adventures! They have excellent fishing, including the species of Walleye, Northern Pike and Sauger), as well as plenty of space to take the boat out. Just relax!
Did you know that there are actually two rare fish species in the lake? The pallid sturgeon and the paddlefish (that prehistoric looking fish!), so try and keep an eye out for those (but don't catch them!)
There is also swimming at a beach with washed sand, great for cooling down on those hot summer days!
If you're feeling active, you can go hiking on the nearby trails and wilderness, and even do some mountain biking. In winter, don't worry there is still activities for you, including cross country skiing!
Nature is waiting for you at the Lewis & Clark State Park! Let's go have fun!
