There is something to wonderful and magical about the imagery of the Great Plains that sweep Nebraska, and the romance of those pioneer days, and at the Legacy of the Plains Museum, you can completely immerse yourselves in its legend and history!
This Nebraska museum celebrates the lives, and shares the stories, of the High Plains - the people, the agriculture, and the communities.
When you arrive, you'll start your historic journey off in the exhibit "Voice on the Prairie Wind", offering a unique introduction into all the stories the museum shares.
From there, you head out into the Main Exhibit Hall where you can see 7 different zones just filled with state of the art interactive displays, and hear these stories of the High Plains peoples.
You can browse the large artifacts in the Annex building, and discover machinery that actually made a blacksmith shop!
Don't miss a chance to take a guided tour to the Wiedeman Farmstead Home, as well as strolls the museum grounds to explore their vintage farm equipment.
Located on the famous Oregon Trail, the Legacy of the Plains Museum offers stunning views of Scotts Bluff National Park, as well as a furnished sod house, and so many more amazing experiences for the whole family!

More than a gift shop - there's a gift BARN! You’ll find gifts for every age group, including books, DVDs, prints, hats, a wide range of memorabilia, and “country store” gifts. The Gift Barn also has lots of signature items for the collector looking for magnets, Christmas ornaments, postcards, and so forth.

The original Oregon Trail runs right through the Legacy of the Plains property. You can follow it all the way west across Mitchell Pass, or hook in to the scenic trails of Scotts Bluff National Monument — including the 1.6-mile Saddle Rock Trail, leading to the spectacular summit of Scotts Bluff. Ask about the hiking and take some time to explore the beautiful outdoors!
