Have you ever heard the phrase "Oasis of the Plains of Kansas"? If you have, you might have just heard people talking about the Lee Richardson Zoo!
If you LOVE animals, then this place is for you! It's home to hundreds of animals - from the exotic to those native just to Kansas. From elephants, bears, lions, giraffes, birds, primates...and so many more from all around the world, kids can really love and learn about these beautiful creatures.
The Lee Richardson Zoo sits in about half of the 110 acres Finnup Park, so it really will make for a beautiful family day out! There are more than just animals in the zoo of course. There are over 50 landscaped acres which form Garden City, with walking paths, a fun playground for kids, and picnic areas. Why not bring your own lunch and enjoy a relaxing day!
But of course, you want to hear about the animals don't you! Of course you do!
There are over 300 animals from all over the world - covering over 100 species. Best leave a few hours for this one! There are also many endangered species which are part of the Species Survival Plan. This is an incredible way for kids to learn about our planet, what we're doing to it, what the consequences are of not looking after it, and why we should be caring for these animals.
It's an invaluable experience for them.
From kangaroos, wolves, lemurs, snakes and lizards, those little creepy crawlies, deer, and rhinos...from the weird to the wonderful kids will love getting up close to these amazing animals.
The Lee Richardson Zoo also holds events and camps across the year, so make sure you put these dates in your diary so you don't miss out!
Don’t forget your camera - there are some amazing memories about to be created!
