Choo choo - all aboard, the train for the Las Cruces Railroad Museum is about to leave the station, and you are invited! There is so much railroad history in the region, it makes sense that there is a museum dedicated to JUST that!
You see kids, the first Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad train arrived in Las Cruces all the way back in 1881 (and passenger services would continued until 1968)
Today, the Las Cruces Railroad Museum displays local railroading history through a number of historic artifacts, as well as historic images, and even public programs. Not only does it explore the railroad history of Las Cruces, but it also explores the impact that it had on Southern New Mexico.
Every year they also host two big events - the Railroad Days takes place in May and celebrates the railroading past, present, and future. This three day event is FREE and open to the public and culminates on Saturday with rolling stock tours and family friendly activities!
Then you have the Old Fashioned Holiday Display which takes place the first Friday evening in December. The night includes a holiday atmosphere, local choirs, and special model trains. How fun!
So get those conductor hats on kids, because we're about to journey to the Las Cruces Railroad Museum for some locomotive discovery!
