It's great to get out into nature, and why not start at Lake Chicot State Park - which also happens to feature the largest natural lake in the state. That's right - Lake Chicot!
This stunning scene is a great setting for your nature filled family day out. There are so many recreational choices that can be made in this oasis in the Mississippi Delta. It's a great setting for taking out the boat, bird watching, and fishing - especially for bass, bream and crappie. Catfish can also be found all year round on the lake.
The park also offer tours of the lake so you can explore more of the hidden corners, as well as learn all about the history of the area (did you know that centuries ago this area was cut off the the main channel, back when the Mississippi changed course?) There are also tours of the levees, as well as other opportunities for the family to experience some of that amazing wildlife in the area.
The visitor center is a great place to start your day, as there are interpretative exhibits which tell you all about the history of the area, as well as the natural resources that can be found. You can also rent bicycles if you want to get around much easier.
Don't forget your walking shoes too, because Lake Chicot State Park has great walking trails which you can enjoy - and yes, there is an easy one! The Delta Woodlands Trail is great for beginners.
Loving it too much and want to extend your stay? Then just head over to the campground which has 122 campsites waiting for you, as well as 14 cabins (most with a fireplace, fishing dock and lake view patio!), as well as a swimming pool and a playground.
Lake Chicot State Park is waiting for you to come and enjoy it’s amazing wilderness! Let’s go!
