Did you ever think there you be glacial lakes in New Jersey? There is in Kittatinny Valley State Park, so if that surprises you, imagine what else there is out there to surprise you!
The state park is filled with magical nature to explore, from limestone outcroppings, and historic former railroads. There is even a small airport!
With all the lakes and streams, of course there is fishing! Lake Aeroflux and Gardner's Pond both form part of the Pequest River, which makes for excellent fishing...and even boating!
Relax on the banks or on the water, and try and spot the beautiful that call the Kittatinny Valley State Park home. Can you guess what kinds of animals you might spot? If you guessed whitetail deer, beaver, squirrels, wild turkey or muskrats, then you'd be right!
The park has a ton of other fun activities which are perfect for that active family. There are hiking trails for you to enjoy, which vary in difficulty in terrain. There are gravel roads which are great for walks, and then the more technical terrain for those more experienced mountain-bikers.
There are also plenty of single track trails as well as gravel roads which are great for hiking and biking in the summer, and then yes winter brings snowshoeing and cross country skiing - don't let that snow put you off! Horse back riding is great in the area too.
If you want a relaxing stroll with a bit of education thrown in, there is a 2 mile self-guided nature trail which gives you an introduction to the parks cultural and natural resources.
