History is ready to be explored at the Kit Carson Home and Museum in Taos, where you can actually visit the structures of the original home of Kit and Joesfa Carson - ensuring preservation of this unique and important part of the nation's past.
The home was build around 1825, and was purchased by Kit Carson for his wife as a wedding gift. This territorial style property became their home for the next 25 years!
In 1963, the home was designated as a National Historic Landmark, and now YOU can visit and learn all about this amazing history for yourselves!
What's really interesting about the collection is that when Kit and Josefa left for Colorado in 1866, they left many of their possessions in their Taos home, which is now the site of this museum. After their deaths, the locations of those possessions became a mystery, and now the mission of the Museum is to slowly locate and repatriate them all back for display!
Today you can see some of these possessions back at the museum, including Carson' Civil War saber, and a sewing kit that one belonged to Josefa, as well as several farm tools of theirs.
A fascinating journey through the history in New Mexico - so shall we begin?
