Venture to Jones Lake State Park and you will find yourself in a popular destination known for lazy picnics under the shade of tall pine trees, and splashing around in warm waters. This popular North Carolina state park is a fun family day out option for those families who LOVE to get out into nature, and enjoy the sunshine. There might even be some adventure in your day too!
Did you know that Jones Lake State Park surrounds not one, but TWO of the many mysterious bay lakes found in eastern North Carolina? Yep! Access however to the remote Salters Lake is by permit only.
Across the year, the park is buzzing with canoes and kayaks out on the lake, and even motorized craft (of 10 horsepower of less) are welcome!
During the summer months, you can even rent canoes and paddleboats for the family. You might want to enjoy a spot of pier fishing too!
The sandy beach of Jones Lake is a great place for sunbathing and taking a dip in the shallow water. There is a fee for swimming from Memorial Day to Labor Day when lifeguards are on duty.
A good place to start your day of adventure is at the visitor center and exhibit hall. It's here you will be introduced to the ecology of the bay laps, which is great to know when you take on the four-mile loop trail through bay thickets and pond cypress. Keep an eye out for the Spanish moss too!
If you want to extend your day of fun, why not try out the family camping sites? These are quiet and serene, and a fun way finish a day of excitement, nature and wildlife spotting.
A great day in a great State Park. Grab that sense of adventure, and let's go!
