John D MacArthur Beach State Park really is a special part of the USA! At this beautiful state park, you'll find a unique mixture of coastal and tropical hammock and mangrove forest. And YOU get to explore it! The island provides a safe haven for several rare or endangered native tropical and coastal plant species, so you know you really are somewhere special.
The park's Nature Center is a great way to start your adventure on the island. Here exhibits explain why the park is a biological treasure. Kids can learn about the park, and everything they are about to see! It's also a great place to ask questions about your stay.
A family day out to John D MacArthur Beach State Park can be jam packed with swimming, picnicking, and even surfing at the beach. There is two miles of pristine coastline, so you have a great selection of spots!
If you want to really explore the area, scuba diving and snorkeling are also popular activities.
Birdwatchers can see a number of different species, including herons, brown pelicans, terns, sandpipers, and gulls. Keen anglers in the family can fish in the lagoon by wading, kayaking, or canoeing. You can also fish from non-swimming areas of the beach.
