It's always fun to find an oasis right in the heart of a city - and in San Diego you will find the Japanese Friendship Garden!
This beautiful garden will introduce kids to not only some beautiful colors and scents, but a different culture and community than what they might normally know.
In addition, the Japanese Friendship Garden have a host of exhibits and events that are perfect for some family fun! The events can be found all year round, and cover a whole range of activities!
You can enjoy Craft Club, learning that beautiful Japanese art of origami, or you can learn the oldest board game in the world with GO Club. Go is the national game of Japan, and with this introductory class you can master it!
You can experience culture with Koto & Shakuhachi performances, or attend an Ikebana class, where beginners or advanced students can learn this beautiful gardening tradition.
Yoga, meditation, and even summer camps for certain grades can all be enjoyed at the Japanese Friendship Garden.
The garden of course, also have beautiful collections of plants, including that iconic bonsai. Bonsai is the Japanese art of growing miniature shrubs, and at the gardens you can see some beautiful examples - some trees having been trained for over 45 years - with some trees actually over 300 years old!
Don't miss the exhibitions either. They change regularly so there will always be something new to head back to! These exhibitions cover topics like Japanese dolls, paintings, Imari, and photography.
