Hoyt Arboretum is a living museum, and if you want to spend your Portland family day out surrounded by the beauty of nature, then this might just be in the place for you! The arboretum was founded back in 1928 as a place to conserve endangered species, as well as to educate all those who visit.
Encompassing 190 ridge-top acres, the arboretum is not only home to 2,300 species of trees and shrubs from six continents across the globe, but there are also 12 miles of hiking trails for you to enjoy it!
Hiking the trails is a great way to really appreciate the surrounding nature, and allows you to explore at your own pace, however Hoyt Arboretum also offer a number of programs to deepen your experience, and these include guided tours offered on weekends.
They also offer family friendly programs, and classes and workshops too, to hone skills in topics like bird identification and plant evolution!
A visit to Hoyt Arboretum is also special year round, with many seasonal plants that are so different to each other.
A great place to start your visit is at the Hoyt Arboretum Visitor Center. Here, you can pick up maps, check the layout of the trails and gardens, and ask staff if you have any questions before setting off.
A day where the wonders of Mother Nature really do come to life, and it's only minutes from downtown Portland!
