Did you know that Hillsborough River State Park was actually one of Florida's FIRST ever state parks? Pretty cool! It was opened back in 1938, and is divided by the beautiful and fast flowing Hillsborough River (hence the park name!)
The river flows so fast it has a set of Class II rapids! It's also the feature of why so many visitors head to the park. It offers opportunities for fishing, as well as canoeing & kayaking.
There is a launch in parking lots #4.
A great place to start your adventure is at the Interpretive Center. It's located in the original 1930's Entrance Station, so already you are immersed in it's history! Here you can catch a glimpse of life in the Second Seminole War, as well as life at Fort Forster.
Over 100 historic artifacts feature, and give kids an understanding of both sides of the conflict.
Hikers get those boots ready, because you can walk over seven miles along four nature trails that will take you through the beautiful landscapes of the park.
The Wetlands Restoration Trail accommodates bicyclists as well as and hikers.
Feeling the Florida heat? Just as well that Hillsborough River State Park also has a swimming pool! When the weather calls for it, you can swim until you're heart's content!
The park offers full-facility camping too, as well as a youth/group tent campground. A primitive campsite is available via foot trail. Reservations are recommended!
A nature filled family day out in Florida's great outdoors, where history surrounds you and adventure is abundant!
