There is so much culture and history in the High Plain states, it's only fitting that they have a whole museum dedicated to them! Now kids - here's a test for you. What are the High Plains states? If you guessed Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota - you'd be right!
The High Plains Western Heritage Center is dedicated to ALL of those states, honoring the wold west pioneers and the Native Americans who used to, and continue, to live there.
The museum is FILLED with an amazing range of exhibits and artifacts for you to explore, and learn from. Western artifacts, western art, family history, and even live animals are all used to show you the historical events! There are 5 main areas that the High Plains Western Heritage Center look at - logging, transportation, agriculture, mining, and Native American lore.
Have you ever heard of the Great Western Cattle Trail? Well, it's the Old West's version of GPS! This trail was their navigation in the 1800s, from Texas to Montana (with some extensions into Canada and Mexico). But that was their map! There are of course floor displays on this amazing trail in the museum - just one of the exhibits in the museum that you can immerse yourself into!
With over 20,000 square feet there is certainly a lot of history to be learnt! Go back in time with their real stagecoach, those iconic Chuckwagons, and kids can even check out the one room schoolhouse (we bet it's pretty different to what you know today!)
You might even spot some Longhorn Steers in the front pasture!
A fascinating insight into the history of some of the first pioneers in the High Plains, we well as those Native Americans who call this part of USA home.
