There are so many amazing places to visit on this planet ABOVE ground, but did you know that there are just as many fun adventures to be had BELOW ground?
If you visit Hidden River Cave and American Cave Museum, you not only get to explore two floors of exhibits all about the history and geology of the caves, but then you get to descend 150ft underground and explore one of the largest and most scenic historic caves in the entire state of Kentucky!
Your first stop will be the American Cave Museum, where you can enjoy a self-guided tour through the exhibits. It's the feel of the Smithsonian in the heart of rural Kentucky! Here, kids can get an in-depth look at the amazing world of caves. The exhibits cover a range of topics, from the history of caving, and how archaeology is used to find out about the vast human history that has been associated with the caves.
Kids can learn about the variety of wildlife that can be found inside the caves, and learn about the unique issues and formations that show important links to the past! Amazing!
Then comes the next exciting part of your journey - the Hidden River Caves themselves! The public guided tours can show you wildlife, historic equipment, and all those amazing natural features that have formed within the caves.
These historic tours last around 45 - 60 minutes, and give you a great introduction to the wonderful world of the underground!
For the more adventurous families, you can try out the Cave Adventure Tours - either 3 ot 5 hours. Here you get a great insight into wild caving, so prepared to get a little buddy!
