History certainly does come to life at the Heritage Village in Largo! This 21 acre living history museum is the perfect way for kids to learn all about history...because they will be part of it!
Heritage Village is right in the heart of Pinellas County, and is actually home to some of the regions most historic buildings.
There are over 31 historic structures and features that the family can explore. Some even date back to the 19th century - can you imagine how different life is today!?
You can explore a school (kids, what do you think? Could you study there now?), a church, a railroad depot, a store, and even a sponge warehouse. Yep - a sponge warehouse!
As well as these historic structures, the Heritage Village also has exhibits where you can learn even more about the life and times of over a century ago.
Exhibits cover a range of themes, from the development of the Pinellas County area, so the colonization of Florida. There are even fascinating living history demonstrations and hands-on activities that you might come across as you stroll around the village.
You might see pine needle and palm frond weaving, or you might find yourself visiting on laundry day! Have a look at the people working in the garden, making ropes, or horse shoes, or even cooking up a storm in the pioneer kitchen!
Don't forget to have a good look inside the buildings too, because they are filled with period furnishings that depict the culture, life and early industries which shaped the area that you know and love today!
Does history repeat itself? You have to explore history to find out! Lets go!
