The rocky Hacklebarney State Park features the freshwater Black River that cuts it's way through the boudlers, making a beautiful location for an adventure.
There are two tributaries, which make their way through the glacial valley, and feed the Black River. This means that even in the heat of midsummer, the Black River gorge remains cool and very refreshing! Who wants to make a splash!
Keep an eye out for the river against the grey boulders and dark green hemlocks, because this creates a truly magical beauty - no matter what season.
Anglers, hikers and picnickers love the park today, but did you know that in the 19th century the park was once mined or iron ore? It's amazing the history!
Fishing is popular all year round, and hikers are in their element with the 465 acres of natural area and incredible views waiting to be explored! There are diverse habitats including wetlands, and birdwatchers will have some great opportunities, especially during migration.
Make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes because the topography can be quite rugged!
