The Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is such an important center when it comes to the Florida environment, so why not head over there with the family to support them and learn from them!
Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is based around 20 acres of protected barrier islands, which provide an important refuge to the number of plants and animals that live in the area. Some are even rare and endangered.
So, when you visit, not only are the kids getting an invaluable education, but they are also helping support something so important!
There is a beautiful trail and butterfly garden (which is in full bloom in May and June), with an outdoor amphitheatre. Just take your time and enjoy nature and all the colorful species of butterflies!
The boardwalk trail is 1/4 mile that will take you through the preserved Hardwood Hammock. Kids - its a great way to use your imagination on what the country would have looked like a LONG time ago, because this area can show you what Florida would have looked like before modern development! There are skinks, grey foxes, woodpeckers, and a host of plants.
Then of course, there is the nature center itself. Here, there are a number of exhibits which including the Sea Turtle Garden, a solar exhibits, a butterfly nursery, among other fascinating exhibits! There are also friendly staff who can answer any questions you have!
The Gumbo Limbo Nature Center also have events and programs which are perfect for families.
