Los Angeles has some pretty iconic attractions, from the Hollywood sign to Santa Monica pier, and Griffith Observatory certainly is up on that list of iconic attractions that you can visit on your family day out!
Griffith Observatory is not only one of the most popular attractions in Los Angeles, but also Southern California! It's where kids can take a journey through the universe, and not even leave the ground!
Even the view is worth the visit. Perched atop Griffith Park, and a great place to drive or hike to, the observatory has some great sunset view points, as well as that iconic Hollywood sign.
You know what else we LOVE about the observatory? It's FREE! Yep - anyone who wants to experience this great attraction can. Inside you can see that iconic pendulum as it slowly swings, and see exhibits on the planets, the moon, the sun, the tides, and a host of other exciting topics.
There is even a HUGE display on the bottom level where you can see an entire wall of galaxies, touch a moon rock and even a piece of Mars, and see how big the planets really are!
Kids will have lots of questions, and it's the perfect place for them to ask and hear the answers. There are always staff on hand to tell them anything they want to know, and even after a few hours here you will still want to know more!
Griffith Observatory also has planetary shows in the theatre at an additional cost, but they also have a host of free admission talks, and programs, that you can join.
Don't forget to stay and watch the sunset too!
It's a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, so get out there and have an out of this world adventure!
