About this activity

All aboard!! Choo Chooooooo!  Please keep your arms and legs safetly inside this moving train, as we take you on a fun and relaxing two hour train ride through the Upper Valley of Vermont.

Following the pictureqesue Connectucuit River, these vintage trains will take you on a journey that was once the only way to travel great distances across this great country.

There are a number of train tours to choose from, including special event tours such as dinner services and what...?  Who did that?  Murder Mystery Tours...

The trains run in all kinds of weather, so a great option for those rainy days.  The trains are heated, so no need to worry, and they even give you cozy blankets to snuggle up under if its that little bit chilly.

These trains are safe, and fun, so perfect for children of all ages, including the little ones. (Its worth noting small children are not permitted on the dinner trains or adult entertainment trips)

Each trip is narrated to ensure you get the best out of the journey, learning about the history of the trains and of the stunning scenery you will be passing through.

So sit back, get your conductor cap on, and take in the view as a family on this magical experience.

Green Mountain Railroad Trains Around Vermont FAQ’s

You need fuel just as much as the trains! On their regular services, they have a snack bar that you can grab some yummy things to eat,or you are more than welcome to bring a picnic lunch on board, and eat in their table cars, which are a first come first serve basis. They also have some speciality dinner events which are held every other weekend from July 6.

While reservations aren't strictly necessary (but recommended in summer), its best to book ahead for special event trains such as dinner or murder mystery.

It wouldn't be a family day out without a gift shop! You can browse until your hearts content at their gift shop located right at the station. (But if you want to take something home you best be very good and ask nicely!)

There is the nearby Montshire Museum which offer an outdoor area for you to eat healthy lunches, prepared for you by King Arthur Flour. Otherwise of course you can bring your own healthy snacks!

At Bellows Falls Vermont there is a wheelchair lift available. Unfortunately there aren't any lifts at some of the more remote stations, such as Cedar Circle Farm, MIddlebury, Shelburne, Charlotte and Monthshire Museum. Also, a lot of the trains are vintage so do not accommodate wheelchairs. Any wheelchair occupants must be able to transfer. If you are unsure, just give them a call ahead of time to discuss your options, they will be very happy to help.
