The Grand Canyon Caverns are the largest dry caverns in the entire country, AND can be found on that iconic Route 66. Two check lists on the one family day out ticked!
These amazing caverns are located a whopping 200 to 300 feet below the earth's surface - who said adventure needed to be ABOVE the earth! They are also located in the heart of 3 million acres of unspoilt land, so get ready for clear skies, fresh air and open prairies!
The Grand Canyon Caverns offer you 4 types of cavern tours, each with increasing durations, so you can pick which is the best for your family!
Those with limited time or limited accessibility, the Regular Tour might be the one you go for. Around 45 minutes in duration, you enjoy an elevator ride down 21 stories to the Chapel of the Ages cavern, where you can learn all about the history of the caverns, and the surrounding areas! There are also some pretty impressive natural formations to admire!
The Short Tour is for those families really in a rush, as it's only 25 minutes!
If you have the time, why not spend a bit longer enjoying these amazing feats of nature. The Explorers Tour is around 2 to 2.5 hours, and you will be taken deep into the lower reaches of the Grand Canyon Caverns. There is no limit, which is super fun! It's all about how deep and dirty you want to go!
Don't forget in 2016 the caverns are planning of offer spelunking tours too!
Above ground there is a 9 hole Frisbee golf course to enjoy, and one can also arrange trips from here to Supai waterfalls, as well as horse-riding and rafting adventures!
