When a young George Washington Carver tended to his secret garden on his 19th century farm, little did he know how important he would become in the world of science, education, and humanitarian efforts.
Now, kids of today can visit the George Washington Carver National Monument in Missouri, and not only learn about his life and achievements, but also be inspired by him!
The George Washington Carver National Monument is not only a historical attraction, but also one that gives families a day out in beautiful nature.
When you arrive, the Visitor Center is the best first stop. Here, there is information on the park itself, and the things that you can enjoy. There is a museum on Carver's life too, which will give kids a great insight into what they are about to experience.
There are interpretive exhibits all on the history and the science, as well as a film you can enjoy, and a bookstore.
If you love nature, get those walking shoes on, because the Carver Trail is a lovely 1 mile, self-guiding loop that takes you into the woods, and along a tallgrass prairie restoration area.
Make sure you keep an eye out for the Boy Carver statue, and visit the grades of Moses and Susan Carver - his parents.
For many visitors walking the Carver Nature Trail is a tranquil experience. One can clearly capture the same enthusiasm young George showed for all of nature. The rustic Carver Nature Trail offers a canopy of different native Missouri trees with lush ground cover.
Many activities offered at the park are related to George Washington Carver's work and interests. He had a "Secret Garden," a rock collection, and wood carvings. He also painted landscapes and flowering plants so students of all ages are invited to a Natural Dyes program at the park.
