History is such a great thing to learn, and what better way to learn all about it, than to visit somewhere that re-creates it!
Flying Pan Farm Park lets the whole family experience what life on a Virginia farm would have been like nearly a century ago! The park preserves and interprets the time between the 1920 and the 1950s, where you can explore the agricultural process, the rural community life, and even the landscape.
These have been created for educational and cultural reasons, so why not check it out!
You can explore a blacksmith shop, and even a smoke house. And of course, you're on a farm, so there will be plenty of animals to meet. Kidwell Farm has draft horses, peacocks, rabbits, chickens, cows, goats, and pigs - just to name a few!
Kidwell Farm is the actual working farm from the 1930s! That's pretty cool.
Kids will love meeting the animals, as well as taking wagon rides through the fields and the farm, or they can even watch the farm at work, and see how it's done. If you want to just watch the farm goings on, you can sit on the porch, or if you call ahead, even take a tour to see how the families would have lived in the 30s.
To top it off, Frying Pan Farm Park is also a regional equestrian center, and you can see lots of great events for free, including jumping, cross-country, western competitions, and more!
Make sure you check out the visitor center too, it's a great way to start your journey...back in time!
