The history of America and the early immigrants is learnt in schools - we know of the Mayflower, and the pilgrims - and it's an amazing history! But what is fascinating about the Frontier Culture Museum, is that you get to learn all about the lives of the early immigrants BEFORE they even made it to America!
Immigrants came to the USA from a whole range of countries! From Germany, England, Ireland, and West Africa.
Frontier Culture Museum is filled with amazing traditional rural buildings that were moved, or reproduced, to show what life was like in these countries centuries ago.
There are two areas of the museum - the Old World, and America.
The Old World gives you a sense of the rural life and culture in four homelands.
What do you think it would have been like to live in 1600's England? Or 1700s Ireland? Or even 1700s Germany?
Of course, the museum follows the journey and gives kids a chance to experience what it would have been like in 1820's America. They can even check out an 1850s school house. Can you imagine what it would have been like to go to school over 150 years ago? We bet it's pretty different to what your schools are like now!
There is even a 1820s and 1850s farm from America. It might be quite surprising to see how similar these farms might be to the traditions of farms today.
The great thing about the America exhibit is that you can see how life changed over more than a century for people from different cultures.
Frontier Culture Museum gives you an interesting perspective on an already amazing history!
