The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial in Washington DC is an impressive memorial to visit when in the nation's capital. This iconic memorial is spread over 7.5 acres, and looks back at 12 years of history of the USA through a sequence of four outdoor rooms for you to explore - each of the rooms representing one of Roosevelt's terms of office.
Throughout the memorial you can explore the sculptures inspired by photographs that all depict the 32nd President, alongside his adorable dog Fala!
Even today, former President Franklin Roosevelt remains intimately connected to the National Park Service. It was acutually during a speech back in 1936 that President Roosevelt noted the incredibly special quality of US national parks. During this speech he stated that "there is nothing so American."
Then, he captured the essential truth of the NPS by declaring, "the fundamental idea behind the parks...is that the country belongs to the people, that it is in process of making for the enrichment of the lives of all of us."
Aside from learning the fascinating history, also at the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial kids can themselves become a junior ranger!
A fascinating and inspiring day out for any families in Washington DC, who want to celebrate the nation's history!
