Located long Baron's Creek, in the eastern part of the town, Fort Martin Scott was actually the first US military post that was established on the westerns frontier of Texas.
Today, the site is a historical treasure, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places - and YOU get to visit!
During your time at the Fort Martin Scott Historic Site, you are free to wander about the grounds, and learn all about the important role this fort played in the development of Texas - and what that means is you can just take your time, and spend as little or as much as you like there!
The area was once teeming with activities of soldiers, teamsters and civilians, and today, the echoes of memories are brought back to life during the many regularly scheduled living history reenactments and events held at the fort.
A great place to start is the Fort Martin Scott Visitor Center, located in the Barracks Building. This is open 10am - 5pm Friday to Monday, and during these times the Fort buildings are open to the public.
On the other days, the Fort is available for self-guided touring but the buildings are closed to the public.
