Did you know that Fanning Springs State Park, located on the Suwannee River, is an inviting source of cool, clear water that has been attracted people for thousands of years. That's pretty cool, isn't it? Literally!
Here's a fun fact kids. Fanning Springs produces an average of 65 MILLION gallons of water daily, making it one of Floridas 33 first magnitude springs. Amazing!
What you will also LOVE to hear is that wwimming or snorkeling in the spring is a refreshing and popular activity on a hot day, and yes that means you can enjoy it too!
Fishing is also a popular activity for families who go and visit. You can't fish from the swimming dock, but you can launch a canoe and get out there to try your luck!
To enter the park, you can arrive via boat from the Suwannee River as well as by car. Don't forget to pack a picnic lunch if you want, as there is a picnic area to be enjoyed as well as a playground for the kids. Fanning Springs State Park also has a large open areas for Frisbee, football, soccer and also for several local events.
Get those hiking shoes too because the park has a nature trail and boardwalk overlook the spring and river. From here you can spot a host of wildlife including white-tailed deer, gray squirrels, red-shouldered hawks, pileated woodpeckers, and barred owls. If you're lucky you might spot the manatees that sometimes visit the spring during the winter months.
You can reserve a canoe or a kayak within the park too.
