We LOVE nature, and we love it even better when there's 143 acres to explore all along the banks of the Broadkill River. The Edward H. McCable Preserve has an extensive range of plants, habitats and wildlife all within quite a small area of the Delmarva Peninsula.
Turn off those televisions, and get the whole family excited about this beautiful piece of paradise in the lovely state of Delaware.
When you arrive you will find a convenient roadside parking area which provides access to the many hiking trails which are located on the preserve. If you want to be extra adventurous, then you can even arrive by canoe! From about 2 miles away in the very lovely and historic town of Milton, those explorers in the family can put their canoes in the water and meander down Broadkill River.
Then, whether you arrive by river or by land, you can then escape into the natural environment around you. There are rare plants, over 100 bird species to try and spot, and lots of native flora and fauna to enjoy.
The Edward H. McCabe Preserve have several distinct habitats which are represented across the preserve, with ridal marsh, swamp forest and even upland forest.
If you want to explore the area by canoe, but don't have any of your own, they are available to rent from Wilson's Sunshine Marina.
Perhaps you want to take a picnic, or some fun games, and just make a day of being out into the wonderful Delaware Nature. Edward H. McCabe Preserve is waiting to entertain and relax you!
