Seattle is located in SUCH an incredibly beautiful part of the country, so why not explore it!? Discovery Park is a gorgeous nature filled section of the city (and it's FREE to explore!)
Set on 534 acres, Discovery Park is actually the LARGEST city park in Seattle (pretty impressive!)
It occupies most of the former Fort Lawton site, and really offr some incredible views. The park itself is situation on Magnolia Bluff, which is overlooking Puget Sound. Not only that, Discovery Park offers spectacular view of both the Cascade and the Olympic Mountain ranges!
The area is secluded, so exploring the park will feel like you're miles and miles away from any city life. Within the park, you could be exploring forest trails one minute and rocky beaches the other.
The secluded site includes two miles of protected tidal beaches which are great for those kids who want to dip their toes in the water, as well as open meadow lands to enjoy, dramatic sea cliffs (take that camera!), forest groves to meander through, as well as active sand dunes, thickets and streams.
Discovery Park wsa created in order to provide an open space of quiet and tranquility away from the stress and activity of the city (which it does!), as well as offer a sanctuary for wildlife. It also makes for a great outdoor classroom for anyone and everyone to learn about the natural world.
One thing we LOVE about Discovery Park is that it's maintained in its semi-natural condition, which means the park will continue to offer a biologically rich and diverse natural area and an unmatched opportunity for environmental education.
Pretty cool!
