Found at the foot of the Virginia Ridge, Dayton State Park is located in the town of Dayton on the banks of the Carson River. Where does the history come in? Well, Dayton was one of Nevada's first permanent settlements.
Today, the area is rich in not only picturesque beauty, but also gold and silver mining history. You can explore AND learn!
One of the highlights of Dayton State Park is the Rock Point Mill, built in 1861, This mill was once used to process rich silver ore from nearby Virginia City. Remnants of the mill are still visible within the park, just west of U.S. 50.
The park itself, which was once a Paiute fishing camp, offers families a scenic site to camp, picnic, and hike. You can completely immerse yourself in the stunning nature all around you, and escape from the outside world!
Keep an eye out for the wildlife that you might meet too. Dayton State Park is home to hawks, porcupines and foxes. You might need a keen eye to see some of them!
