A visit to the Davenport House Museum really is an essential stop on any Savannah tour. Here you can really embrace the history of Savannah, and its historic preservatino renaissance.
Davenport Huse is an 1820 Federal-style dwelling that was built by a man named Isaiah Davenport, for him and his growing household. The Davenport House is actually one of the oldest brick structures in the entire city, and it's furnishings and artifacts really give you a true sense of what home life like in the 1800s was like.
It really is like stepping straight into the history books!
Davenport House nearly didn't make it though, which would have been a travesty! It was actually in 1955 that the Historic Savannah Foundation stopped the property from being demolished. Luckily they did, because the house has gone on to be one of the most important historic structures in Savannah.
Today, you can learn all about the property and experience it first hand via one of the daily tours offered, led by trained docents. The tours run every 30 minutes during opening huors, so there are plenty of opportunities to join a tour and ask all the questions you'd like about the history of the property!
Don't miss a stroll through the beautiful gardens too!
The museum also offer programs and events throughout the year, so make sure you check the website so you don't miss out!
