Did you know that in the 1980s, Dauset Trails was primarily a rehabilitation center for injured and orphaned wildlife? That's pretty amazing!
These animals that couldn't be released due to injury were given exhibits for protection and display, and this great to become the Animal Trail within Dauset Trails Nature Center!
Today, the Animal Trail winds about half a mile through the woods and a small lake. Easily accessible by foot or strollers, these areas are now used to teach kids of all ages the importance of these species in this ever-changing world!
If it's reptiles that you like, stop by the Wonder Room at the back of the Visitor Center, where you can discover live alligators, turtles, lizards and even snakes native to Georgia. Yes, some of them are venomous too!
For those fans of aquatic animals, there are a small variety in the small lake, including ducks, geese, big catfish and turtles. You can feed them too if you buy special feed for them!
Love the farm animals? Great, because Dauset Trails Nature Center has plenty of those too! Horses, mules, chickens, and cows all call this nature center home, and you can go and visit!
Also at Dauset Trails is the Barnyard experience, where you can explore a 19th century style working farm complete with animals, cane syrup mill, cooking areas, country store and more!
Then of course, for those active kids you can just take to the trails themselves, whether it be on foot or on bike.
Wildlife, history, and the great outdoors are all waiting for you in Georgia!
