Located in the heart of Old Town Eureka, the Clarke Historical Museum is one of the gems of the North Coast and is a great place to visit with any family who loves history!
The museum in housed in the 1912 bank building (so you are already immersing yourselves in the history before walking in the doors!) features exhibits that showcase the history of Humboldt County, with emphasis on the late 1800's.
Within the exhibits you can learn all about the vibrant Native American cultures who lived, and still live, in the region. You might just be surprised how little their traditions and way of life has changed!
Journey back and uncover the many gold rush settlements - such important events in the area that really made an impact on the region today!
There are artifacts exploring the lumber industry, as well as a look at life on the ranches, the farms, and how people lived out at sea.
You can feel like you're actually stepping back in time as you walk through period rooms, catching glimpses of Victorian elegance. What do you think life would have been like back all those years ago?
Kids can see how everyday work, home and play life has changed across Humboldt County, and how it's shaped the future!
The Clarke Historical Museum is also the site of the Eureka Visitor Center, so if you want to explore the region even more after your museum visit, you're in the right place to ask questions!
A trip back through the fascinating history of Humboldt County is ready and waiting for you. Just what will you discover today?
