Founded back in 1773, the Charleston Museum continues to give fascinating and educational days out for the families who visit, with exhibits all about the South Carolina lowcountry, and it's rich history.
Kids can learn all about Charleston and its role in the Civil War, with exhibition panels on the events, and the people, and what it meant for the nation's future
In the Bunting National History Gallery, kids can experience the extraordinary world of fossils, with specimens, animal mounts, and geologic examples, that all tell the story of the Lowcountry natural history. What amazing creatures once called this area home? How has the landscape changed over millions of years?
For those kids who just love hands-on learning, the Charleston Museum features Kidstory, a place where kids can discovery through interactive exhibits, and where the story of Charleston comes to life!
You can check out the work of the finest craftsmen and women in the South, from the colonial era to the Victorian age with a Charleston Silver exhibit, and of course, really go back into the history of the region in the Lowcountry History Hall. Here, you can see minerals related to the Native Americans who first inhabited the region, as well as the colonist and enslaved African American who transformed it.
The Charleston Museum also boasts an impressive armory collections including Revolutionary and Civil War swords, and a Becoming American exhibit, where you can actually see rare items, including George Washington inaugural button!
An incredible trip through South Carolina's fascinating history, in a museum that happens to be an important part of history too!
