The Gulf of Mexico may border three sides, but then you have the iconic Lake Powell on the fourth side. This happens to be one of the largest coastal dune lakes in Florida!
Did you know that the region has a rich history too? In fact, there have been prehistoric middens and mounds found in the area which indicate that humans lived in the area over 4,000 years ago. That's pretty incredible!
Camp Helen State Park is a 180 acre park geared for day use only. During the day, families can enjoy a host of activities that take advantage of the beautiful surroundings, including beachcoming, swimming, freshwater & saltwater fishing, and even studying nature!
For those hikers in the family, the Oak Canopy Trail winds through a dense canopy overlooking a salt marsh. A great stop is the visitor center where you can pick up a complimentary trail guide.
Feeling like some more history? Great! Camp Helen State Park also features a historical district, that includes a water tower, rainbow cottages, and duplexes. All of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places!
