Y'all ready for some BIG learning Texas style, at the Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin, where you can learn all about what makes Texas, well - Texas?

First, let's talk about the exhibitions! Here you can immerse yourselves in the story of Texas, with over 700 original artifacts displayed in the Texas History Galleries, with new artifacts always being added.

Becoming Texas offers a hands-on, immersive experience that uncovers the history of the state, taking you back over 16,000 years, right through to Mexican Independence in 1821.

Moving to the second floor, you can explore Texas history from 1821 to 1936, uncovering personal stories, the people and places that shaped the state to what it is today - from Civil War, slavery and the Great Depression.

The third floor takes you through ranching, industries, and technology, and the states propulsion into the 20th century.

Also at the Bullock Texas State History Museum is an interactive map where you can share your own Texas stories, and an artifact gallery where you can see up close a range of important items that each tell its own story, from books, to furniture, clothing and more.

Bullock Texas State History Museum FAQ’s

Strollers are allowed in the exhibition galleries. However, use caution as you explore. Textured floor surfaces in several exhibitions provide an immersive experience, but require extra care. All restrooms are equipped with changing tables and wheelchair-accessible stalls and sinks.

The Story of Texas Café is located on the Museum's second floor and serves hot and cold meals, including kid-friendly fare.

Check out the fun events they host throughout the year including workshops, Summer Film Series, hands-on craft activities and evening events !

There is SO much to buy in the store! There are gifts inspired by Austin, products celebrating the famous historic slogan from the Battle of Gonzales, items related to the Alamo and so much more!

Explore history, science, language arts, ESL, the arts, and many other stories of Texas through the Bullock Museum's school field trip program. With three floors of exhibitions including two special exhibition galleries, two theaters, volunteer-led conversation carts, and a variety of Student Special Event days, there is something for every grade level and subject area.

If you do plan to bring your own snacks, remember no food is permitted in the museum, but on a nice day, enjoy your food and drink on the Lone Star Plaza in front of the Museum.
