Follow in the footsteps of the iconic William "Buffalo Bill" Cody with a visit to his boyhood home! The Buffalo Bill Cody Homestead is a beautifully preserved 1847 farmhouse, which today features on the National Register of Historic Places.
The farmhouse was actually built by Cody's father, Isaac Cody, using native limestone and walnut floors and trim. (Isaac Cody also built the very log cabin Buffalo Bill was born in, so he was quite the talent!)
Today you can visit the Buffalo Bill Cody Homestead and see the wonderful renovations that have taken place on the property to really bring it back to it's prime. As you walk around this living museum you will see the added furnishings that were all typical to life in the mid-19th century. It will be like you've actually gone back in time!
The Buffalo Bill Cody Homestead is also nestled in scenic hillside which overlooks the rich Iowa prairie. If you look closely you might just spot the buffalo grazing on the land surrounding the house.
A really fascinating historic museum experience for the whole family, and the scenery is beautiful too! Perhaps this is the very house that Buffalo Bill Cody discovered a connection to the buffalo? Possibly!
Kids can imagine what he might have done to pass time as a child, and what he might have learnt in his one-room school cabin. Could you imagine having school classes there? It's much different to schools today!
The Buffalo Bill Cody Homestead is a must-visit Iowa attraction for anyone who loves history.
