Ready for some action at Big Shoals State Park? Well action is what you can have at this popular Florida state park because it also happens to have the largest whitewater rapids in the entire state too!
The scenery at Big Shoals State Park is worth taking the camera for. Limestone bluffs tower 80 feet above the banks of the Suwannee River. Vistas not found anywhere else in Florida!
For those keen rafters out there, you'll be excited to know that when the water level on the Suwannee River is between 59 and 61 feet above mean sea level, the Big Shoals rapids earn a Class III Whitewater classification, attracting thrill-seeking canoe and kayak enthusiasts.
For those who want something a bit more gentle, a smaller set of rapids can be found downstream and they are called Little Shoals.
It's not just all about the whitewater rafting though. At Big Shoals you'll find over 33 miles of wooded trails perfect for those outdoor loving families. These are perfect for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and wildlife viewing.
It's worth noting that the Woodpecker Trail is a 3 and a half mile long multipurpose paved trail that connects the Little Shoals and Big Shoals entrances to the park.
The river offers excellent opportunities for freshwater fishing too! Endless activities for the family! Don't forget to pack that picnic, and enjoy a fun lunch under the Florida sun.
Get ready for outdoor adventure, because Big Shoals is waiting!
