If you wanted to visit the largest house museum in Tennessee, then make sure a trip to Belmont Mansion is on your family day out to do list!
If being the largest house mansion wasn't enough, Belmont Mansion is also one of the few historic homes that actually revolve around the life of a woman! If you hadn't heard the name Adelicia Acklen before your Nashville trip, then you certainly will have before you leave.
Belmont Mansion is actually the largest house that was built in Tennessee prior to the Civil War (kids, history lesson - when was the Civil War?)
Here's a tip - the house was built between 1849 and 1860 and was the home of the Acklens. The mansion is actually one of the few 1850s era structures that still surivive in Nashville, so it really is like walking back into history.
Along the self-guided tour, you can learn all about the people that lived in Belmont Mansion - both free and enslaved. Who were they? What were their daily lives like? How did their lives differ from each other? How do their lives differ from yours!?
The majority of the rooms in this Nashville historic mansion have been meticulously restored, so you won't have to use your imagination too much to feel life over 150 years ago.
The most common visit to Belmont Mansion is that of the General Admission, where you can tour the mansion at your own pace, and call on one of the stationed guards to answer any questions if you have them. If you wanted something a bit more in depth and personal, make sure you check out the range of tours available on the website.
